However, at her birth the augur's saw an even more useful future for the child. Recognizing her strong divination inclinations, the augurs saw a future where Anna would serve their needs better than her own family's. To this end, Anna was allowed to be raised by her parents with the intention of joining the augurs after graduating college some day.
Seeing this as their chance to further their family name more than it already was, Anna's family spent her youth drilling into her the importance of family duty. In their eyes, even if Anna was to become an augur her duty should still be to her family name. As an augur, Anna would be destined to a life without love. She would be a slave to the past and the future, constantly recording what was and divining what would be for powerful families. Objectivity was supposed to be the rule of the augur's, but Anna's family felt differently.
In truth, what the augurs saw in Anna and failed to reveal to her family was an empathic ability. Witches have their own innate magic, and a stronger ability to use the world around them to further their magic. But some are born with unique gifts. And Anna was born with a talent for knowing the feelings of others. All her life, she has never found a way to drown that onslaught out. Which meant when her family told her that family was above all, she felt nothing but greed and desire from them. And Anna knew the truth of their lessons.
Being such a prominent family, Anna was also close with the Thornton family. An American witch family that tended to be at the central of most magical power in America. She was close to the son's age, a few years younger, and in him she found a safety she couldn't find in her own family. She shared her secrets with him as she grew up. And worse, she fell in love with him. Harrison, however, was promised to the daughter of the Hawthorne family from England. An older and more powerful family. And feeling his sense of duty far deeper than Anna's, she never felt the spark of anything romantic from him in all their time. The one secret she never shared with him.
Instead the pair grew up almost like siblings. They even attended Harvard together. Harrison studying law, while Anna decided to put her abilities towards a higher calling as a future psychiatrist.
When Harrison was finally arranged to meet the Hawthorne daughter, Anna went with him as his friend to keep in company in Oxford. While in Oxford, Anna met with the youngest son of the Hawthorne family. While she had a nice time with him, she felt something from him that surprised her. Love for two others, and secrets that were tearing him up. When Nate revealed he would be leaving his family soon, Anna chose to go with him as his friend. Feeling they both might be able to find comfort in their friendship at the very least. Personality: + Compassion: despite the overwhelming senses she gets from her empathic abilities, Anna does have a deep compassion from others. Other emotions can be exhausting for her, but she feels them and acknowledges them all the same. She uses her abilities often to form deeper connections with people she feels comfortable with and working to help them. She has difficulty ignoring the struggles of others, and offers an understanding ear where she can.
- Withdrawn: While Anna feels strongly towards helping people, she struggles to reveal her own self to them. The problem with feeling the emotions of others, she has an ability to sense how people feel towards her. As such, she has a tendency to pull away too early in relationships, fearing getting hurt later on. It makes it difficult for her to form longer-lasting relationships overall.
- Insecure: Anna's insecurities tend to come from internal, rather than her external views of herself. She's fairly confident in her own body, but not in her own personality. Having not felt anything romantic from Harrison, it taught her the wrong lesson in that if someone like him couldn't love her potentially no one else could. As such, she tends to think the least of herself, finding herself unworthy of other's attentions.
- Self-destructive: As compassionate as Anna can get, feeling the emotions of others can be difficult on her. It's a constant flow that overwhelms her, and sometimes even threatens to drown her. Anna finds that getting high or drunk helps her to block it out, or at least ignore the flow. As such, she tends to over indulge herself to try to tamp the worst of it down. Powers and Abilities: ( note, I am using the same table from Nathaniel Hawthorne's app, as both characters are from the same universe and we created the table together for our characters )
Anna is a witch in her world. Magic in her world is both innate and requires components to do. While some are born with innate connections to magic, making magic easier than for others, some minor magic can be obtained without an innate ability. Anna was born with that innate capability to do magic, and raised in a family that's made their lives around witchcraft. As such, she has studied many of the schools of magic of her world to keep the family tradition alive.
The table below sets out each school, along with the various spells that witches are able to learn:
Conjuration: "the performance of something supernatural by means of incantation or spell."
- Elemental Control: Ability to create and control: fire, water, earth, air and electricity.
- Teleportation: Instantaneous transport of a person or object over large distances.
- Creation: Manipulation of matter to create objects or organisms.
- Binding: Ability to trap a creature within a designated area.
- Telekinesis: Ability to move objects with one's mind.
- Chlorokinesis: Ability to influence and control plant systems.
- Atmokinesis: Ability to influence and control weather systems.

- Necromancy: Ability to summon and control spirits of the dead.
- Summoning: Ability to call forth extra-planar entities (e.g. spirits, demons, angels).

- Astral Projection: Ability to call forth one's own spirit and wander free from a physical body.
- Mediumship: Ability to commune with spirits of the dead.
- Resurrection: Ability to restore a dead person to life.

While there are many schools, Anna has learned some of each very minorly. Her focus has always been divination in preparation for a future she never asked for.
Additionally, Anna has her own innate gift with magic. She is an empath, meaning she can feel the emotions of others. She has no control over this, despite trying to find some all her life. She does not get thoughts tied to emotions, however, so she may feel the sadness of a person but she doesn't inherently know why they might be feeling sadly. Inventory: 1. Her phone 2.
